A restaurant in Scotland has shown how small businesses can take on the big firms when it comes to social media, socialbuzzawards.com reports.
Illegal Jack’s, a grill restaurant in Edinburgh triumphed at the Social Buzz Awards, a ceremony marking innovations in the world of social media marketing.
Whilst Illegal Jacks missed out in its nominated category of ‘Best Use of Video’ (which Nintendo went on to win), the restaurant was awarded one of the highest accolades of the ceremony, ‘The Chairman’s Award’; fending off competition from brands such as Heineken and Walt Disney.
The award was based on Illegal Jack’s innovative use of video, creating tongue-in-cheek shorts that were featured on the company’s social media pages. The videos proved a hit; bringing custom to the business and awards for their efforts.
Speaking to stv.tv of the videos – some of which feature author Ian Rankin amongst their extras – restaurant owner AC Muir explained: “We ended up having wild parties with all of the customers with food and drink.
“It seems to have caught the imagination of the judging panel. We’ve got some big businesses like Nando’s and Wagamamas on Lothian but you can use technology and social media to fight back against the chains. Social media is massive for us”
